10 Life Lessons I Wish I Learned Sooner
Often times we learn from our mistakes. Although this may be true, we also learn from our successes. Our life experiences both positive and negative can teach us valuable lessons that we can use to help improve our lives and shape us into the best version of ourselves. It's easy to start every year with a new resolution or goal we would like to achieve, but this year we would like to share some of the lessons we've learned over the past year.......or two.
#1. It's ok to love people from a distance
You can still give love to those around you without giving them an all-access pass. Keep your distance and you will have peace. (Side note: distance is not always physical. Sometimes keeping your energy at a distance will also help).
#2. Everything doesn't deserve a response
Sometimes you have to let your silence speak for itself. If you are innocent in the situation, it will prove itself without you having to testify on your own behalf. Like the old folks say, payday comes after a while and everyone who works gets paid.
#3. You cannot be THAT girl/guy, until you have learned to love THIS girl/guy.
Appreciate who you are now and focus on the present. You are and always will be good enough.
#4. Everything that belongs to you will come at the right time.
We have learned that anything that is meant to be will come with ease. Anything forced is simply not supposed to be there. Give yourself grace. Just because you see another person's order come before yours, doesn't mean you are not eating. Your order is coming.
#5. Do not over explain yourself and your intentions.
It's unnecessary to overexplain when you lead with love, knowing your heart is in the right place. Those who have set their minds on misunderstanding you will continue to do so regardless of how simple your explanation is.
#6. Happiness truly is a choice.
It sounds cliche but it is definitely as true statement. When you are feeling down, make it a point to counter act that feeling by saying and/or doing something nice for yourself.
#7. Your mental health is more important
If it doesn't feel right, don't do it. Take care of you.
#8. Keep the commitments you made to yourself FIRST
How can you be good to someone else if you are not good to your first. Learn to make sure you are taken care of first before you try to help the next person. Especially if you are a parent. If you are not well, neither are your kids.
#9. Don't get angry because someone does not know what you know
Not everyone is aware of everything, even if it is something you think they should know.
#10. Walk like you own the room and you will
Be confident in who you are and what you bring to the table. Not everyone will see your magic, but you will attract the right people who don't need corrective lenses to see you.
No matter how old you are, you can always learn and grow. The lessons learned in life are valuable and can be used to improve our relationships, our careers, and our lives. The most important lesson is to never give up on yourself.
