2Sense Shortie: 10 Lessons We've learned on the Journey to Self-healing

Self-healing and growth are journeys we all must take in order to become our best selves. During these past few years, we have dealt with a lot of things that have made us want to slow down and take a deep look at ourselves and everything that we thought that we knew. It has been a long road to self-healing for us. While we always discuss different ways to begin the healing process, we haven't really discussed what we have learned. We invite you to take this journey with us.

Here are the top 10 lessons we've learned on the journey to self-healing.

1. You Can't Take Everyone with You:

Everyone is not going to support your self healing journey. You may even out grow some close friends and family. As the saying goes: some people are in your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.

2. Self-care is not just a spa day or a shopping spree:

Although a spa day and shopping spree is always fun, self care is much more than that. Self care is self acceptance, self respect, and self advocacy.

3. Speak up for yourself:

Setting and boundaries and following through with disciplinary actions if they are crossed. Boundaries protect you, your mental health, physical health, and emotional health. Those who respect your boundaries, respect you.

4. Trust yourself:

Learning to trust yourself, your judgement and decision making will help you in your healing. Self care (as mentioned above) is also about acceptance and knowing yourself and your flaws. This is the only way you will truly trust yourself.

5. Solitude is Necessary:

There is so much power in solitude. Solitude is not to be confused with loneliness for one can feel lonely in a room full of people. Solitude allows you to find your own voice, helps you build mental and emotional strength. It gives you time to focus on your own interests and ambitions.

6. Comparison is the thief of joy:

We live in a world where social media is just as common as cellphones. It is so easy to switch from app to app, searching for validation and comparisons. It is easy to let a picture 30 sec-1 min video make you feel insecure. However, that is not the whole story. Never compare a frame in someones life make you feel insufficient. You're doing a great job sis. Besides its you against you.

7. Gratitude not attitude:

It is easy to look at social media and assume you are not good enough and that the blessings you once prayed for are now waste. You are where you need to be in life and you have now what was once a dream. Show some gratitude and be kind to yourself.

8. Accepting yourself completely:

Be kind and give yourself grace. You are perfect just the way you are. The sooner you realize this, the better. Accepting the good, the bad, and everything in between helps to catapult you into trusting yourself. Trust yourself to be exactly who you really are whether people like it or not.

9. Negative thoughts are not fact:

As stated above, trust yourself to be exactly who you are. In this process, it is easy fall back into negative thinking. Just remember, thoughts are not factual. Turn negative thinking into positive thinking. Replace a negative thought with gratitude.

10. Healing is a journey not destination:

The work is never done. You are always growing and learning with new experiences and challenges of life. Always remain to be a student of yourself and your growth. Remember it is a journey, not a destination.

The journey is not easy but it is worth it.Mental health plays a major part in the success of your life and the quality of your life. Keeping yourself in alignment; mind, body, and soul. What are some of the lesson you have learned on your journey to healing? And if your would like a more in-depth post about what we learned, leave a comment below and let us know!

Same! Total self acceptance is such a journey in itself! It sounds cliche but we now understand that "flaws and all" is what makes us all unique! :)

Absolutely! My sister and I have been practicing solitude for a while. We actually enjoy the alone time apart to self reflect and grow.
