2Sense Shortie: The Haircut I Didn't Want

What would you do if your beautician cuts your hair and they completely messed it up?

Well, let me tell you a story…….

Picture it: the year is 2008 (Listen you Gen Z’ers, don’t come in here calling us old, mmkay?! Lol just follow along) Now, again, picture it: the year is 2008. You have this major event that you are supposed to attend. You have found the perfect outfit. You have your nails done, your makeup look planned, and the matching accessories fit for the look. The only thing missing is your hairstyle. You schedule an appointment in advance and let your beautician know that this is a big event and there will be some important people there so you want to look your best. She agrees and says she knows the perfect way to add some sass to the style you are requesting. You are so excited about the sprinkle of sass! You let her know you are down for anything b that will help out the look but do not cut the front bangs.

At this time, Rihanna’s “Umbrella” jet black asymmetrical bob was a big hit and not to long before this event, you decided to cut your long tresses into said bob because you wanted to look like a grown woman (Not sure why, cutting you hit makes you look grown but in our mind it was a crossover into womanhood). So your beautician agrees and says, “you don’t need the bangs cut, just a trim in the back so this should be easy.”

The day of the event finally arrives. You have a day of beauty planned. Nails? Check. Eyebrows? Check. Outfit? Check. Hair? Well, we’re about to find out.

You go to the shop. Full of good spirits. You sit in the chair after sharing salutations and begin discussing tonight’s festivities. She takes you to the shampoo bowl and gives your scalp a relaxing scrub (which was much needed after the day’s errands). You both laugh and talk about hair colors as she places you u see the dryer. You sit under the dryer playing games you found on your phone to help pass the time. The timer goes off and you’re back in the chair. She blow-dried the rest of the wet spots in your hair closer to the roots. You can feel that your ears are probably warm and red.

After your hair is dry, it’s time for the cut. She trimmed your ends when suddenly your larger pieces of hair begin to fall and you feel her hands pulling on pieces in the front.

Well, she is me and I am her. After getting my hair messed up by my ex-beautician, I went from looking like Rihanna’s “Umbrella” to Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone” (iykyk). Needless to say, I was livid but there was not much I could do. And get this…I STILL PAID FOR THE SERVICE! But cried on the way out.

What would you do if your hair was butchered by your stylist? If you’re a stylist, tell us your mistake story……this is a safe space (we promise). Leave a comment below and let’s discuss!
