Healthy Hair? You've got it! 5 keys to healthy hair

I don't know about you all but I'd rather have healthy hair than length. Don't get me wrong, I love having flowing, long tresses but its something about the look of healthy hair that just gives what its supposed to have gave. Besides healthy hair, is growing hair so its a win-win.

So if you want healthy hair, I have a few tips for you. Now I do have to put out a disclaimer: **what may work for me, may NOT work for you.** We all have different hair textures, density, and porosity; all of which are totally ok. Thats what makes all hair types beautiful. However, if it does work, I happy that I could be of some service. So without further ado, here are 5 tips that have been successful in helping me maintain my healthy hair and hopefully this will help you as well.

Drinking Water

Drinking water is an old time old faithful beauty secret that some people do not realize helps in every area of your being. Drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated helps to promote healthy hair follicles; thus healthy hair. Think of it this way, if the body is dehydrated then your growth comes to a halt. So remember to get that water in. At least 6-10 glasses of water per day.

Clipping Your Ends at the Appropriate time

Keeping your ends clipped, trimmed, dusted, etc when needed. Believe it or not trimming actually helps to promote growth. It helps you to detangle a lot easier as well. In my experience trimming my ends helped my hair not only look healthy, but it actually looks longer and fuller than what it really is. Seriously! Sounds crazy but its true. Not to mention, it helps your curls to flow better and you will be saying 'stiff where?!"

Deep conditioning

I personally deep condition every time I wash my hair. It seems to help my hair especially since I wash my hair with shampoo every 2-3 weeks. For those of you who do not know, I am natural but I keep my hair straight. Deep conditioning helps me to retain moisture in my hair. I do not have a problem with retaining moisture, as I have normal to high porosity hair. However, I do not like my hair to fill weighed down and heavy with oils and products. Plus I need the extra moisture to sink into my hair shaft. I like to use my favorite conditioner, a capful of Jamaican Black Castor oil, and a spoonful of sea moss. Sea moss is great for improving hair growth and also prevent bacterias in the scalp.

Low Manipulation/Protective styling

Since the pandemic and being forced to stay at home. I lost all the will to even do my hair. Seriously! I became so lazy with my hair. Having to wake up to do virtual schooling with my kiddos kind of forced me into low ponies and messy buns. Sometimes my hair would be in the same low maintenance styles for a whole week. However, it helped my hair to grow. Its true when they say, keep your hands out your head and it will grow. Now that the world is opening back up slightly, I actually have to look cute (LOL!). So I look for protective styles to keep my hair intact and keep my hands to myself.

Silk Pillowcase

I used to sleep with in my scarf or bonnet RELIGIOUSLY!!! I would wake up if it felt like it was slipping off. Not really, because I love sleep but you know what I mean. Don't get me wrong, I still have my bonnet but I recently switched to a silk pillowcase and it has changed my life. Now if the bonnet slips off, my hair is still protected! I even bought one for my daughter.

**BONUS** Collagen

I love collagen for my skin, my joints, and my hair! Collagen helps to build your hairs protein at the roots. Giving it strength and shine. It also reduces the appearance of grays which is great for those who may gray early (like me) due to genes......thanks dad! I like using Vital Protein's Collagen. They have several products including creamer and collagen water to help you get that extra boost of collagen that you need.

Healthy hair is important to me. Hair health in my opinion is just as important as skin health, physical health, etc. Its all about balance. Whether your hair is short or long, it can be journey but the journey is worth taking.
