Skincare's Order of Operation
Keeping your skin healthy is one of the most important things you can do for your body. Taking care of your skin extends beyond applying creams to your face and treating your under-eye circles. Your skin needs to be taken care of from head to toe. For the best summer glow, here are a few key steps you won't want to miss.
EXFOLIATION
Exfoliation is when you gently scrub the skin to remove dead skin and dirt from the skin's surface. You can use a scrub, exfoliation tool, or chemical exfoliator to perform this process. It is just as important to exfoliate your body with an African exfoliating cloth or a sugar scrub.
CLEANSER
A good cleanser helps to remove the build-up of oils, dirt, and makeup. Using a cleanser daily is important for the health of your skin. Cleansing helps to prevent dehydration, premature aging, and breakouts.
TONER
Toning your skin helps to remove the last bits of dirt left on the skin after washing. It helps to bring the skin's pH balance back to normal after cleansing and exfoliation. Toners help to shrink pores and minimize signs of premature aging. However, toning is not good for everyday use. Once or twice a week is enough to maintain your skin. If overused, you can cause irritation and redness to the skin.
SPOT TREATMENT
Spot treatment is optional however, it is good to address any blemishes, age spots, or dark spots.
NOW TO THE FUN PART........SERUMS:
Here are a few serums that work well together:
*Retinols and Hyaluronic acids.
*Vitamin C and SPF
*Niacinamide and Hyaluronic acids
*AHA's and BHA's.
Learning how to apply your serums and what to mix or not mix together is key. Mixing the wrong serums together can do damage to the skin causing more breakouts or other reactions.
EYE CREAM
The skin underneath your eye is very thin. Eye creams help to create a barrier under the eye to give the appearance of smooth, plump skin. This creates a more wide-awake and youthful look.
MOISTURIZERS
Moisturizers help to reduce dryness or oiliness of the skin. It helps to control acne from forming because the skin is dry and/or oily. It also helps to hydrate the skin and to help makeup application smoother. Body acne is also a real thing, so make sure you moisturize your body for that dewy, glowing, hydrated look.
